Volunteers

RWorg_2011_volunteer3The success of any event depends on the countless volunteers who give their valuable time and energy in a variety of ways in support of these events. Below are some opportunities for you to consider. If you are interested in helping with any of these positions on race day, please call (757) 668-7098 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Race Greeters
Stationed at the entrance to Town Point Park, Race Greeters will help guide our runners to registration, packet pick-up, and other areas within the race venue. As our Race Ambassadors, you will be stocked with maps and info to help answer questions, provide directions and happily get people where they need to go.

Course Marshalls RWorg_2011_volunteer2
Will be positioned over the entire course, help set-up barricades and cones, and monitor turns and intersections. You will direct runners so they stay on course, keeping cars off the course, and generally keeping the course safe for the duration of the event.

Water Stations
You will fill and hand out cups of water to runners as they run by. After runners go by, you will clean up the station by raking up cups and filling trash bags.

Race Day Registration
You will distribute runner's bib numbers, timing chips, and t-shirts; answer questions, accept registration forms and fees, and assign race numbers on race day.

Finish Line
You will help keep runners moving through the finish line and direct them to post-race cool down and refreshment areas.

Post-Race Refreshments
You will serve post-race refreshments (fruit, pizzas, bagels, etc.) at the end of the race. Some volunteers may also be needed to pick up food (bagels) the morning of the race.

Race Set-Up and Tear-Down
You will set-up tables, tents, chairs, trash cans, hang banners and install fencing for the race. Following the race, all materials will be broken down and loaded on trucks for return and storage. This activity may require some heavy lifting (40-60 lbs.).

Vendor/Hospitality
You will assist vendors in locating their designated area, answer any questions, and provide other info they may need.

Family Activities Area
Volunteers will help with family friendly activities including face painting, corn hole, hula hooping, and much more.
