Event Information - Saturday June 19 - Downtown Norfolk

An 8K run (4.97 miles), 2-mile walk, and a 1-mile fun run and wheelchair race will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 to benefit CHKD. More than 3,000 local and regional athletes, children and families are expected to join in the festivities. The event will start and finish at Towne Point Park in Downtown Norfolk. Start Times

Registration: 6:15 a.m.
8K Team Hoyt/Jogging Strollers: 7:25 a.m.      
8K Run: 7:30 a.m.      
2-Mile Walk: 7:32 a.m.      
1-Mile Fun Run/Wheelchair Race: 9:00 a.m.      
(course is open to runners until 10:00 a.m.)

CHKD's "Children's Marathon"

The Children's Marathon is a 26.2-mile, 12-week training program that begins the week of March 16, 2010. Children can complete a log sheet outlining any kind of physical activity they achieve each week. For example: walk in the park = 1 mile, game of basketball = 1 mile. The final 26th mile will be the 1-mile Fun Run held during the RunWalk for the kid's event.


All children who participate at the event in the 1 mile are presented with a finisher medal.  Every child who pre-registers for the children's marathon prior to May 22 ,2010 and presents their completed marathon log on race day will receive a special award. 

NO RACE DAY REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THE MARATHON.

Awards

•  All 1-mile Fun Run participants will receive finisher medals.

•  Age group awards for top finishers in the 8k Run will be provided in five-year increments as follows:  
10 & under     16 - 19     30 - 34     45 - 49     60 - 64
11 - 12            20 - 24     35 - 39     50 - 54     65 - 69
13 - 15            25 - 29     40 -44     55 - 59     70 & over

 

 

Awards will be presented to the:
•  Team with the most participants
•  Team that raised the most in donations/pledges
•  CHKD team with the most participants
•  CHKD team that raises the most in donations/pledges
•  KD Circle team with the most participants
•  KD Circle team that raises the most in donations/pledges

We are proud to have the awards provided by Running Etc. and New Balance. Running Etc. is donating gift certificates to each of the award categories, and New Balance is donating a pair of shoes to 1st place finishers in each catergory.

For Your Safety

CHKD Sports Medicine is the official medical service provider of the RunWalk for the Kids.

Water stations, medical teams and emergency phones will be available for your safety. The following will not be allowed: bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, dogs, headsets and unregistered runners.

 
Parking

Using A Timing-Chip

Runners will wear an electronic timing chip on their shoelace. Chips in the pocket or pinned to bibs will not be read by the timing equipment.  Only the 8K will be timed.  Click here to view times from the event.

*Each timing chip is equipped with a computer chip and coded specifically to each participants’ assigned race number. Make sure that you don’t swap chips, and when you pick up your race packet, please verify that all of your information is correct, especially name, age and gender.

All chips must be returned at the end of the race.  All chips not returned will result in a $35 charge to the race participant.
